Arrowsmith Bikes Hill Climb #1 – Recap and Results

Written By on August 4, 2016

The 3.2km climb up to Witchcraft Lake was a huge success, with 24 racers taking part, making it one of our best attended climbs ever. Series sponsor Arrowsmith Bikes went above and beyond, recruiting a crew of racers out who normally would be up on Ridgerunner mountain biking. The influx of fresh faces was a welcome rush of energy, and the post race social afterward a great reward for tired legs. For the skimmers: results link here. 2015 results link here, for those who asked. In the female category we had 6 battle it out, with newcomers Megan Nunez and? Read More

#16 Rock City Cycles 15k TT – Results and Recap

Written By on July 28, 2016

The 2016 Rock City Cycles TT Series hosted a huge turnout for the hottest race of the year, in its finale. 27 racers showed up, and we welcomed out a familiar face with one of MIVA’s founding fathers, Dave Kenny coming out to race.  Dave Steen again made the trek from Thetis for his 9th TT this season and decided to break his season best by 37 seconds! A warm headwind off the start kept most of the field from PB’ing, except for Janna Gillick who set another course record 2 days after winning the crit race outright, and Eli Buffalo who knocked 20 seconds? Coal City Cycles Crit #15

Written By on July 20, 2016

The second last crit of the season saw our largest turn out in several weeks with 21 riders taking a gamble on the weather to come out and play.  It was especially fortunate that the weather held off with 8 CVAA riders making the trip down from Comox/Courtenay.  Having Evan Luksay in the field for his first crit of the year as a youth rider the first two of forty laps were ridden at a neutral pace.  The tame start to the race caught several riders flat footed as the pace increased sharply with the Comox riders attacking each other? After eleven weeks of racing in circles, Broad Street Cycles’ Nick Kupiak leads the Sr. men standings. It appears that Kupiak has the series locked up. There is, however, enough time for an epic battle between James Sage (MIVA), Mike Sevcov (Cycle Therapy) and Chris Cameron (MIVA) for the coveted second-place bragging rights. Let’s hope we see some aggressive racing in the upcoming weeks from these three!   Meanwhile, Ayden Houle (MIVA) continues to be in the mix with the Sr Men and is leading the Jr Men’s category. Janna Gillick (ATAC) leads the Sr Women’s.

Crit #10 in Coal City Cycles Series

Written By on June 16, 2016

(By Peter) COAL CITY CYCLES BOXWOOD CRITERIUM 160614 30 laps 34.5km 41.1kph Small turnout for tonight’s race, due no doubt to the cold weather and the threat of rain, so distance cut to 30 laps. The pack stayed together for the first 2 laps and then Nick , Ayden and John distanced themselves from the rest. They gained 20 seconds in the next 4 laps and then John drifted back to the bunch, his lesser fitness showing clearly. Meanwhile, Patrick, Lee and Mike dropped back, leaving Chris and James between them and the lead duo. Nick and Ayden then consolidated? Read More

TT#10 of 16 on the season was a nice night after on again off again storms all day/week long. Temps and attendance were low but times were still fast. A big thank you again to our volunteers, and to Jason Hare for doing the hour drive (each way) to time an event neither of his kids could race in. The number of hours board members put in behind the scenes can’t be understated and their efforts are so appreciated. Results from tonight here Series Standings up to date here 12 racers started, 9 finished, and 3 of those were youth.? Read More
