Monday Night Developmental Ride

Written By on June 26, 2016

Hope to see lots of you out for a ride tomorrow night. If numbers call for it we will have 3 groups as usual at different paces. Once again this is a “no drop” ride and you will learn some technique along the way. We leave from the NIC parking lot at 6pm and return by 715-730. Everyone is welcome, you just need to sign our club waiver or be a member already. See you tomorrow for a fun group ride.

Sprint Clinic June 20

Written By on June 12, 2016

Building on the idea surrounding our Monday night Development rides, on Monday June 20 we will be running a sprint clinic. Sprinting or Match sprinting is usually a track cycling event for between two to four riders over a short distance.  For our purposes we will be using Maxey road where two riders will flip a coin to decide who leads and then sprint the 300m back to the finish line just before Durnin road.  The lead rider can choose to choose to ride slow and force the other rider to move in front allowing them to draft and save? Written By on June 4, 2016

This is a reminder that Robin of Coal City Cycles will be leading another Flat repair session at 5:15 in the NIC parking lot. Our regular Developmental ride will follow at 6pm. Many of you are wanting to learn how to use your CO2 inflator quizmo and we are encouraging you to do so. Therefore Robin will bring some extra CO2 cartridges in case you need to purchase another one. See all you keen riders on Monday!

Super Duper Hill Climb Recap

Super Duper Hill Climb Recap The idea was simple, ride all of the MIVA hill climbs in one go. Basically up every big hill in Nanaimo and regroup at Whitesails brewing afterwards for food, beer and stories. 61km and 1200m of climbing in one shot. Despite the event being held on mothers day we had twelve riders show up ready and eager to tackle the challenge. Prior to the race start we discussed the course.  Despite the route being laid out on Strava the idea was to hit all five checkpoints in whatever order they wanted by whatever route they? Read More

MIVA Races & Disc Brakes

Written By on May 12, 2016

MIVA, With Cycling Canada’s and the UCI’s recent ruling on disc brakes, MIVA has been in back and forth discussion with CyclingBC to clarify how this affects our TT, Hill Climb, and Crit Series. From June 13th onward disc brakes will not be permitted in any Time Trials, Crits, or Hill Climbs. For group rides and club rides disc brakes will not be recommended, but will be allowed. MIVA has seen huge growth and with that comes responsibility to protect our membership, our volunteers, as well as our board of directors. Cycling BC has made it clear that we are? Read More

Monday May 2, ride report

Written By on May 6, 2016

We had another great night on Monday with 18 riders showing up. This allowed us to split into 3 different groups. The faster group enjoyed an interesting twist of route choice which included climbing Meadow road. If the Wednesday night group is too fast for you why not come out Monday night as it looks like we will always be able to offer a faster group ride this night. The “new to group riding” or slower group enjoyed a fun ride which included some tips on technique and group riding etiquette. Come on out next Monday!
